Books and Me - part 1

All my life when I look back I havent done much other than reading, reading and more reading.
Extra-Curricular activity??? reading. Hobbies??? reading. Interests??? books and reading. But with the amount of reading I have done, I was really taken aback when I recently realised that the contribution of Tamizh books to the repertoire had been very meagre. Apart from Kalki and Barathiyar I hardly remember myself hunting for a particular tamizh author's book. I do read a lot of magazines but magazines dont count. My world of Tamizh books has been really very small. Klaki, Barathiyar, Gokulam, Pundhalir, Ambulimama, Rani Comics(the tamil version of most of the Marvel Comics), Anandha Vikadan and Kalki again (but this time it is the magazine). That is all of it.

I knew Sujatha was great. But my early tryst with his Ganesh-Vasanth really put me off. Not because they were bad, but because I had already gotten quite weary of  reading detective stories after my numerous encounters with Perry-Mason, Holmes-Watson and Poirot-Hastings. I really did think that, that was all the stuff Sujatha could write about. And boy I was wrong. I realised what an awful prejudice it had been only when I read his 'Katradhum Petradhum' compilation quite recently. He absolutely rocks and I adore him for his style of writing (simple, but it never lacks). If anyone could suggest me some good Tamizh authors to experiment with, I thank you in advance, please do leave a comment.

I have recently started reading a tamizh book which I have heard quite a few people claim as on of the masterpieces of its time (well, I really dont think it is a masterpiece of all time. But then I shoudnt be pronouncing a conclusion till I actually finish reading the book). The book is quite huge, split into ten parts and consumed  almost half of my luggage when I came back from India this time (I had to forego some really good stuff for the bargain). Im some 90 pages into 'Arthamulla Hindu Madham' by Kannadhasan and my very first thoughts on the book and the author is 'You bloody MCP!!!' (Yeah you heard me right that is exactly how I felt).

P.S: And now dont get me started on what this Male Chauvinism and Feminism is all about. That is an entirely different topic which I intend to talk about sometimes soon in the very near future.

Gotcha

If my last few dumb posts (yeah you read it right...DUMB) have sent misleading signals that this is gonna be an all Tamizh blog, then I take it to be my responsibility to make people understand that it is NOT an all Tamizh blog after all. The posts in question were written only to test whether I could still write in Tamizh (ouch it hurts!!! I got stuck quite a few time wondering for an exact Tamizh word to suit the need) and they would stay exactly where ever they are (You really thought I would take them down just because they were misleading!!!) as a living proof of 'yes, I could still write in Tamizh'.

Maybe you would think what is all this frenzy about writing in Tamizh? I wish I could write about it somewhere sometimes and put forth my arguments for your comments. But I am sure this is not the place to talk about that. Remember object orientation??? the 'one object-one function' concept I would like to stick to something like that with my blog posts too 'one post- one topic' concept (this is not a strict rule though).

So, though from time to time I would take the liberty of exercising my Tamizh skills !!! I would also continue to blog in English. Maybe even Japanese, French or Italian when destiny desires, but definitely its not gonna be all Tamizh.
